our story

August 2013, Michaela got a friend request on Facebook from a boy she had never seen nor met.  She later found out this boy—Mason Bentley—was in her Freshman ward at BYU. However, it wasn't until November 1, 2013 that things really began.  It was the Halloween stake dance, and seeing as they were both on the ward's activities committee, they were both there early to set up.  Previous to this they had maybe said a total of 10 words to each other at various ward activities and meetings, but little did Michaela know that Mason had picked this night to finally accomplish what he had wanted to do for months.
Michaela showed up in her normal clothes ready to take every shift at the ward booth—anything so she didn't have to dance, talk to people, or acknowledge the fact that it was halloween. Needless to say...she wasn't in the best mood that night, but that didn't stop Mason.  Not long after the dance had started Michaela's cover was blown and Mason found her sitting at the booth alone. He walked straight over to her in his penguin costume and asked to sit down. It didn't take long for them to be completely absorbed in conversation. And it took even less time for Michaela to realize what an incredible man Mason was. So after this conversation, things moved fast.  They were on their first date the next Friday, and had their first kiss a week after that.  Although it moved fast it seemed like they had known each other forever. From the very beginning everything felt right.  It was easy.  From November-April they spent every moment they could together.  They studied together, cooked together, had numerous adventures together, and made ordinary things extraordinary. Unfortunately, come April, Michaela had to make the long trip back to Canada for the Summer (without her boy). That was the first hard goodbye of many.  But even though they were 800 miles apart, they only grew closer together.  Now, Mason is serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Uruguay, Montevideo West mission, and Michaela is preparing to leave to the Portugal, Lisbon Mission in February. They are excited to continue their story beginning August, 2016.
